About Jane

Jane McGonigal, PhD, is the Director of Game Research and Development for the Institute for the Future in Palo Alto, California. She believes game designers are on a humanitarian mission — and her #1 goal in life is to see a game developer win a Nobel Peace Prize. She is the author of two New York Times bestselling books: Reality is Broken: Why Games Make Us Better and How They Can Change the World and SuperBetter: The Power of Living Gamefully. You might know Jane from her TED talks on how games can make a better world and the game that can give you 10 extra years of life, which have more than 15 million views. She is also the inventor of SuperBetter, a game that has helped more than a million players recover from symptoms of depression, anxiety, chronic pain, and traumatic brain injury.

Gaming for Change and Resilience

What could be different in the future? Play a game with legendary game designer and New York Times bestselling author of "Reality is Broken" Jane McGonigal and unstick your mind about what’s possible for the future of libraries and your community. You'll learn how to look for clues about what’s already changing, and how to get inspired by those clues to playfully redesign the rules of reality. Have fun, build a new creative skill set, and learn how collaborative games can create change and greater resilience in your community.
