Description

Following an introduction to Music & Memory and its relationship to Music Therapy, participants will be shown how to implement personalized listening, acquire and care for program equipment, develop an individualized playlist, understand and respond to resident responses, secure program funding and reimbursement, and respond to program issues and concerns.

Objectives:

  • 1. Participants will learn how to develop individualized playlists for dementia care residents using available resources. CBMT Domain I.B.2.
  • 2. Participants will learn effective approaches to use in implementing a personalized listening program. CBMT Domain I.D.3.
  • 3. Participants will be shown how to incorporate personalized listening along with music therapy in the overall treatment program. CBMT Domain I.D.4.
  • 4. Participants will learn how music therapists address the wide variety of unpredictable client affective, emotional and mood responses that occur with personalized listening. CBMT Domain II.A.2.

Schedule:

  • 20 min. – History and overview of the Music & Memory Project; definition of “personalized listening”
  • 20 min. – Presentation: Review of AMTA relationship with the Music & Memory Project
  • 20 min. – Presentation: Common features and differences between Music Therapy and Music & Memory
  • 10 min. – Break
  • 1 hour – Presentation and Discussion: Initiating and installing a personalized listening program
  • 1 hour – Presentation: Achieving music therapy objectives in conjunction with personalized listening
  • 10 min. – Break
  • 1 hour – Presentation and Discussion: Utilizing AMTA Workgroup resources for personalized listening
  • 40 min. – Discussion: Overcoming issues and concerns encountered with personalized listening programs
